Position Overview: The Visual Arts Educator is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive instructional program in the field of Art, catering to students in grades 6 through 12. This role includes managing student conduct, evaluating student performance, and adjusting teaching methods as necessary. The educator will also engage in various student monitoring and support activities.

Teaching Responsibilities: This position may involve teaching at the high school level (grades 9 through 12) or at the middle school level (grades 6 through 8). Classes may be organized by grade or may encompass multiple grade levels, focusing primarily on subject-specific content, though skill-based or specialty-oriented classes may also be offered. Some educators may work in off-site locations or in a blend of off-site and classroom environments. Collaboration within a team or departmental structure is expected, although independent work in a specialized teaching area may also occur.

Key Duties:

  • Evaluate student capabilities in relation to established educational goals and outcomes.
  • Design and implement effective instructional strategies and activities, selecting appropriate materials and resources.
  • Adapt and customize educational resources and techniques to align with the needs of students, adhering to the curriculum framework.
  • Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment through effective discipline and management practices.
  • Oversee student behavior in instructional settings to foster a conducive learning atmosphere and assist in managing behavior in other school areas.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Engage with resource personnel as needed to support student learning.
  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings as required.
  • Continuously assess student progress and maintain necessary documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student performance and progress.
  • Ensure that the learning environment is safe, engaging, and well-maintained.
  • Participate in school-wide activities and events, contributing to the overall school community.
  • Monitor student behavior in non-instructional areas and intervene as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to implement school-wide initiatives.
  • May lead or coordinate extracurricular activities, such as clubs and academic competitions.
  • Adhere to all relevant laws and policies regarding equal employment and non-discrimination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education or eligibility for conditional certification in Art.
  • Valid professional teaching certificate in Art.
  • Understanding of federal regulations regarding educational services for students with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with instructional content, methods, and materials relevant to the teaching specialty.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to implement instructional strategies that meet diverse student needs.
  • Capacity to apply current educational research to instructional practices.
  • Proficiency in planning lessons that align with educational objectives.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
