Position Overview:
The individual will oversee the comprehensive tax compliance and accounting responsibilities, which include conducting tax research and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all government-required tax submissions for Highmark Health and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with both internal and external deadlines.
- Ensure the accurate completion and timely submission of tax filings, supported by detailed documentation and calculations.
- Prepare necessary forms and attachments related to tax filings using appropriate software tools.
- Identify tax-related issues and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to Tax Management.
- Oversee tax provisions (GAAP & STAT) for Highmark Health and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely completion and compliance with deadlines.
- Conduct necessary calculations supporting tax provisions, including current calculations, deferred roll forwards, and effective tax rate reconciliations, maintaining detailed work papers for all calculations.
- Ensure accurate financial statement disclosures.
- Conduct tax research and planning for Highmark Health and its subsidiaries, effectively communicating tax implications to relevant stakeholders.
- Manage tax forecasts, ensuring calculations are supported by thorough documentation.
- Lead federal and state/local examinations, representing Highmark Health before government authorities as needed.
- Facilitate periodic meetings with Tax Management and subsidiaries to discuss business and tax-related matters.
- Collaborate with external auditors and provide guidance to other Tax Staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required; a Master's Degree in Business Administration or Taxation is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in tax specialization, including project leadership experience. Experience in tax accounting (ASC 740), compliance, and planning is essential, preferably within a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
- Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, relationship-building skills, and a client-focused approach. Must be a self-starter capable of working independently and collaboratively under pressure.
