Surgical Technologist Senior

As a Surgical Technologist Senior at UPMC, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures. You will work under the direct supervision of a Clinician and the Director to coordinate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies, and assist the surgical team in preparing patients for surgery.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
- Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves, and scrubbing for surgical procedures.
- Coordinate day-to-day supervision of surgical technicians, and serve as the lead on daily shifts to resolve any questions or issues.
- Teach both skill and theoretical principles to new employees and students.
- Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
- Support cost containment in the use of materials and equipment.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and collaborate with surgeons, specialty team members, and other departments.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and assist in implementation.
- Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
- 3 years of current Operating Room experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of at least 2 surgical specialties with 1 year experience in selected specialty desired.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
