In the heart of Charlottesville, Virginia, at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), we are seeking an accomplished Scientist (Open Rank). This exceptional role will enable you to be part of the esteemed North American ALMA Regional Center (NA ARC) and contribute significantly to the transformation of the ALMA Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU) data processing software infrastructure. You will play a pivotal role in the planning, preparation, development, and implementation of cutting-edge data processing pipeline software for the WSU as part of the ALMA Pipeline Working Group.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a senior scientist with experience in commissioning or developing astronomy data processing pipelines relevant to ALMA. As a member of the NA ARC, you will work closely with other renowned scientists from the NAASC/NRAO, the ALMA Pipeline Working Group, and the Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO). Your expertise will facilitate and enable groundbreaking science by the community and enhance observing capabilities for ALMA.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field and possess a minimum of one year of postdoctoral or staff scientist-level experience in areas such as radio/millimeter/submillimeter astronomy and interferometry, astronomical observing and working in an observatory setting, Python programming, and common software packages used for data processing and analysis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to comprehend and synthesize new technical information, work independently and within an internationally-distributed team environment, and exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills.

We offer a comprehensive compensation package that includes a competitive salary, ranging from $100,000 to $125,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, our benefits include excellent paid time off, medical, dental, and vision plans effective on the first day of employment, and a retirement benefit contributing 10% of a qualified participant's base pay.
