Position Summary

The Class-B CDL Transportation and Warehouse Associate will operate a Food Bank Class-B commercial vehicle to efficiently pick up and deliver products across a 34-county service area, ensuring safety and timeliness in all operations.

Typical Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM with occasional Saturday shifts.

Key Responsibilities

As a representative of the Food Bank, you will:

  • Conduct daily routes safely and efficiently, adhering to all DOT/FMCSA regulations, food safety standards, and organizational procedures. (80%)
  • Utilize provided technology and equipment to accurately log all relevant Roadnet data for each stop, including arrival and departure times, as well as route notes.
  • Maintain all required federal and state administrative logs, including transportation logs, pre-trip inspections, and maintenance schedules.
  • Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding any changes or incidents that may affect route timings.

In addition, you will:

  • Assist with loading and unloading vehicles, including those from partner organizations, and ensure proper product placement within the warehouse. (20%)
  • Adhere to all safety policies and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Report any equipment issues to the appropriate supervisor promptly.
Additional Duties

Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess a clean criminal background and driving record, and be able to pass a drug screening.
  • Valid NC Class-B CDL driver license with at least 5 years of experience operating vehicles with a GCWR up to 33,000 lbs is essential. Experience with liftgates is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain certifications for powered warehouse equipment (training will be provided).
  • Must pass a basic math assessment and food safety training.
  • Experience working collaboratively with employees and volunteers in warehouse and food distribution settings is necessary.
  • Strong initiative, time-management skills, and the ability to work independently are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential, along with a proven ability to build effective teams.
  • Must demonstrate exemplary customer service with all stakeholders.
  • A commitment to the organization's mission is required.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this position include:

  • Regularly talking, hearing, and interacting without impediment.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, and using hands for various tasks.
  • Lifting and carrying loads up to 60 pounds for short distances.
  • Reaching and lifting objects to heights of 6 feet or more.
  • Frequent twisting of the body.

Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, or crawling may be required. Vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision.

Work Environment

This position involves working in general warehouse, outdoor, truck, and office settings, including exposure to refrigeration and freezer environments. Protective clothing will be provided and must be worn. Interaction with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse is expected, with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and powered equipment. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate, and temperatures may vary significantly.
