The Life Safety Specialist maintains a safe and secure environment for members and staff at 92nd Street Y, focusing on pool and aquatic area safety. This role promotes a positive atmosphere that encourages member engagement and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures Safety and Security: The Life Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety of every individual at 92nd Street Y, both in and around the pool and the rest of the facility. This includes being rescue ready at all times, with necessary equipment and knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Emergency Response and Reporting: The Life Safety Specialist knows and reviews all emergency procedures, responds to emergency situations immediately, and completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Enforcement of Regulations: The Life Safety Specialist enforces regulations related to showers, food and drink, and conduct, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all.
- Shift Coverage and Staff Support: The Life Safety Specialist is responsible for following proper sub procedures and finding adequate coverage for shifts when staff cannot work.
- Member and Staff Relationships: The Life Safety Specialist maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff, promoting a culture of safety and respect.
- Safety Rule Enforcement: The Life Safety Specialist knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Pool Condition Monitoring: The Life Safety Specialist checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and when the pool is opening or closing.
- Training and Development: The Life Safety Specialist attends all staff meetings and training as required, staying up-to-date on safety protocols and procedures.
- Active Scanning and Chemical Monitoring: The Life Safety Specialist actively scans the entire pool at all times, including the bottom, and checks chemical readings every 3 hours.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Age and Certification: The Life Safety Specialist must be at least 16 years old and hold a Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or equivalent.
- Physical and Mental Readiness: The Life Safety Specialist must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with Red Cross standards and maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
