Job Title: Principal Engineer Scientist

RCM Life Sciences and IT; RCM Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer Scientist to join our R&D team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing project leadership, research and development, and technical service for multiple assigned technical projects conducted within the R&D department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement new products and projects for the organic growth of our client.
  • Conduct research, suggest, and develop new products and projects for the organic growth of our client with input from more senior R&D staff or R&D management.
  • Recommend, plan, execute, generate or obtain results, and evaluate the data from all experiments (lab and/or production scale) agreed upon with management input.
  • Prepare all required reports as directed as well as presentations of projects.
  • Adhere to all our client's Design Control Procedures, Safety Policies, Environments Policies, and other facility requirements where the work is conducted.
  • Support and collaborate with all individuals within the company as necessary and recommended to achieve the results required by assigned projects.
  • Attend all team meetings related to assigned projects.
  • Organize and convene additional meetings as necessary to achieve project success.
  • Provide technical support to Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and other Product Development staff as needed.
  • Guided interaction with customers, sales, technical service, quality control, production, and/or suppliers.
  • Recommend external meetings and conferences.
  • Attend training for self-improvement.
  • Conduct literature searches, including related technical papers, patents, and others, as needed.
Requirements:
  • Training in chemical science/engineering or material science/engineering with at least five, and preferably 10 or more years of industrial work experience.
  • Material and process scale-up experience is a plus.
  • Excellent data analysis skills to form solid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated product development experience including the formulation of water-based, solvent-based, and emulsion/dispersion coatings.
  • Working knowledge of materials analysis, testing and evaluation techniques including thermal analysis, FTIR, GC/MS, ICP, surface science/tribology, particle size analysis, powder flow characterization, adhesive bond characterization, corrosion analysis, SPC (e.g., Ppk/Cpk), root cause and other failure analysis methodologies.
  • Experience with thermoplastic and thermoset polymers including (poly)olefins, polyesters, polyurethanes, (poly)siloxanes, hot-melts, thermal-cured and UV/EB-curable resin compositions, super-absorbents, and composite materials.
  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Good written communication skills to report results.
  • Fluency in using contemporary and relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and DOE/optimization software like Minitab or other similar tools.
  • The self-motivation and ability to operate routinely in a fast-paced environment as demonstrated from previous experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work with suppliers and customers who have a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Time management, prioritization, and planning skills required to balance multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Recognized ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with other departments and R&D colleagues to achieve successful commercialization of projects within the timelines required.
  • Familiar with Stage gate process and Design control procedure knowledge and document maintenance.
  • Recognized/demonstrated success in the effective completion of projects.
  • Recognized expertise in the resident technology for the relevant Business Unit.
Education:
  • Masters or PHD degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field is required.
