As an Automation Specialist, your role will involve:

We are looking for an Automation Specialist with extensive experience in liquid handling robotics and the integration of associated instrumentation. The ideal candidate will exhibit creative solutions in the design, optimization, and execution of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) or cell- and organoid-based workflows utilizing automated robotic systems. This position requires a commitment to continuous learning and expertise in emerging automation technologies.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Integrate Liquid Handling Robotics: Efficiently merge liquid handling robotics (e.g., Beckman-Coulter Biomek i7 & Dynamic Devices Lynx) with relevant instrumentation to facilitate molecular and cellular biology workflows.
  • Automate Standardized Assays: Validate and implement automated workflows for various standardized assays, including DNA/RNA purification, NGS library preparation, qPCR, and more.
  • Collaborate and Translate Processes: Partner with scientists to convert benchtop processes into fully automated workflows, including programming and validating these processes.
  • Design User-Centric Processes: Create and validate comprehensive processes on integrated lab automation platforms, focusing on user-friendly design and secure data management.
  • Troubleshoot and Enhance: Work alongside scientists to troubleshoot and enhance the efficiency and integrity of processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with various teams to incorporate NGS and organoid workflows into automated systems.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve technical and instrument-related issues concerning automation and NGS workflows.
  • User Training: Educate end-users on the operation of automated platforms and workflow execution.
  • Stay Updated: Keep abreast of advancements in automation technology and methodologies relevant to liquid handling systems.
  • Independent Workflow Development: Independently develop novel automated workflows.
  • Meticulous Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of all experiments conducted.
  • Collaboration and Organization: Work collaboratively across teams to support and share methodologies.
  • Lab and Equipment Management: Oversee the organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with 1+ years or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in bioengineering or biology, emphasizing automation platforms and liquid handlers.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with programming and troubleshooting liquid handling platforms.
  • Experience with laboratory operations and maintenance of automation instruments used for NGS workflows.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, particularly NGS assays.
  • Proven ability to maintain Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), and Performance Qualifications (PQ) protocols.
  • Effective communication skills within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Functional knowledge of at least one high-level programming language (e.g., Python).
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling platforms.

Preferred Skills:
  • Extensive experience with high-throughput methods and laboratory automation.
  • Proficiency in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instrumentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of end-to-end NGS workflows.
  • Understanding of cellular and molecular biology.
  • Proficiency in NGS protocols and automation programming.
