POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Special Education Administrator, the Speech Language Pathologist delivers both direct and indirect services to students with special needs, enhancing their communication skills in relation to academic tasks.
Interventions are conducted within the students' educational settings and may encompass integrated classroom services, pullout sessions, collaboration with educational staff, observations, and consultations with the IEP team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Conducts diagnostic, remedial, and consultative services for students experiencing receptive and expressive communication disorders.
- Assists in identifying students at risk due to educational, physical, or psychological challenges.
- Completes assessments related to education or early intervention, including student observations, record reviews, interviews, and both standardized and non-standardized testing methods.
- Prepares assessment reports adhering to established timelines.
- Participates as a member of the IEP team to determine suitable treatment plans.
- Develops both long-term and short-term goals and objectives.
- Creates and implements therapy intervention plans to support students in benefiting from special education services.
- Maintains accurate records, materials, equipment, and other necessary supplies for treatment.
- Stays informed about current methodologies, approaches, and research in the field.
- Educates principals, teachers, other staff, and parents about available speech-language services.
Education/Experience:
A typical pathway to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills includes:
- A Master's degree in speech-language pathology is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree is required.
- At least one year of experience in an educational setting is desirable.
Knowledge of:
- Various assessment methods for identifying communication disorders, developing and interpreting Individualized Education Plans, and basic computer skills.
Skills:
Effective communication both orally and in writing; ability to develop goals and objectives for students; maintaining precise records; and interacting successfully with individuals.
Licenses/Certificates:
Valid State of Nevada driver license and Nevada Teaching License in Speech and Language Impairments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is primarily sedentary, with some requirements for walking, standing, bending, or carrying light items.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Applicants must possess a State of Nevada teaching license. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Benefit packages are available for eligible employees working 27.5 hours per week or more, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance with no waiting period, sick leave, holiday pay, and vacation pay. Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) is also included. New employees will undergo fingerprinting upon hire and every five years thereafter, with costs deducted from their first paycheck.
