Job Title: Registered Nurse - Mental Health Specialist

Join the State of South Carolina as a Registered Nurse - Mental Health Specialist and make a difference in the lives of individuals with serious mental illness. As a member of our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, you will provide evidence-based services in an intensive non-residential treatment and rehabilitative setting.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will provide direct services to ACT patients, including assessing health, social, psychiatric, and medical needs, administering medications, and developing strategies to maximize medication adherence. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community health, psychiatric nursing, and experience working with adults diagnosed with serious mental illness.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct services to ACT patients, including assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning
  • Engage in health promotion, prevention, and education activities
  • Ensure patients are seen in accordance with their needs (medical/psychiatric appointments)
  • Complete clinical documentation using collaborative documentation and ensure services are documented in accordance with SCDMH/QA requirements
  • Participate in clinical supervision and daily treatment team meetings
  • Comply with Corporate Compliance, Policy, and Risk Management Plan
  • Ensure timely completion of prior authorizations
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the SC Board of Nursing
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and two (2) years' experience; or a three (3) year diploma and two (2) years' experience; or an associate degree in nursing and two (2) years' experience as a Registered Nurse, one (1) of which must have been in a community health program
  • One-year experience working with adults diagnosed with serious mental illness and working knowledge of psychiatric medications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the techniques and best practices of the nursing professional
  • Knowledge of medical and nursing terminology
  • Ability to evaluate a client's medical status and needs and use knowledge and judgment to respond to plan, implement, and evaluate client medical care plans
  • Ability to provide individual health education and counseling
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Knowledge of privacy laws
