About the Role

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with special needs, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Student Education Plans
    • Collaborate with parents, department team members, and other professionals to create individualized education plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Support Learning for Students with Diverse Needs
    • Design and deliver instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, ensuring that students with special needs have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate with General Education Staff
    • Work closely with general education staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
  • Monitor Student Progress and Maintain Accurate Records
    • Regularly assess student progress, participate in review and revision of student IEPs, and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records.
  • Mentor and Support Teaching Assistants
    • Provide guidance and support to teaching assistants who work with students with disabilities, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality support.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
    • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations
  • Experience and Skills
    • Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment (preferred)
    • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching (preferred)
    • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching (preferred)
    • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching (preferred)
    • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) (preferred)
    • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
    • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable)
    • Current CPR (if applicable)
    • TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable)
    • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
    • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
    • Successful completion of new hire training (as applicable to job site)
    • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
    • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required
    • Computer proficiency required
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
