Position Summary
The Radiology Technologist Associate is responsible for a range of patient care activities and professional tasks aimed at enhancing patient treatment and care. This role operates under the guidance of a licensed radiology technologist and plays a key role in managing patient flow within the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts basic diagnostic x-ray procedures under the supervision of a radiology technologist.
- Addresses patient inquiries regarding imaging procedures.
- Prepares patients for examinations, ensuring their safety in the absence of the supervising technologist.
- Acquires necessary medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as instructed for administration by qualified personnel.
- Assists healthcare providers in executing diagnostic imaging exams relevant to their specialty areas, including but not limited to Rad/Fluro, CT, IR, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, and Ultrasound.
- Retrieves patient orders and requisitions while supporting various administrative tasks in the Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Medical Record (EMR), or other essential applications.
- Provides assistance to patients with mobility needs, including restroom assistance and use of bedpans or urinals.
- Contributes to administrative functions, quality assurance, safety protocols, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Physical Demands
This position requires moderate to significant physical effort, including lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and sitting, along with occasional stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling. Exposure to various physical conditions may occur, such as walking on hard surfaces and being near operational equipment. Adherence to radiation safety protocols is essential to minimize exposure to ionizing radiation, along with compliance with MRI safety and infection control measures.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with preliminary coursework towards a certificate or degree in medical imaging. Relevant clinical experience is preferred, particularly in medical clerical skills.
