About the Role

The Director of Nursing at Providence Health & Service is responsible for coordinating the functions of the nursing department within the nursing center. This includes planning, staffing, evaluating, and budgeting for the nursing department. The successful candidate will promote a team approach and an environment of learning and professional growth within the nursing department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the quality of nursing care and plan systems of care.
  • Manage RN/LPN and RCMS staff, including hiring, coaching, training, evaluating, disciplinary action, and discharge as necessary.
  • Keep current of resident condition and ensure licensed nursing staff have valid, current licenses in Oregon.
  • Collaborate with the RCMs, RNs, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure quality care.
  • Interpret and maintain standards of nursing care, both statutory and current professional practice.
  • Prepare and monitor the nursing department budget.
  • Coach staff to develop knowledge of professional accountability, authority, and responsibility.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and manage the maintenance of regulatory required documentation.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary and leadership team meetings.
  • Review unusual occurrence reports and nursing department employee incidents and ensure appropriate investigation and follow-up.
  • Provide oversight for employee health issues such as vaccinations and TB skin testing.
  • Assist with the admission process in determining appropriate patient/resident placement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, within 8 months of hire.
  • Master's Degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Upon hire: Oregon Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed).
  • 1 year of management responsibility.
  • Experience in long term care.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance in promoting the highest level of quality of gerontological nursing through evidence-based practice.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply pertinent regulations, healthcare trends, and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize urgent situations and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to provide a variety of complex services using good organizing, prioritizing, and time management techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Human Resources practices and processes needed to manage staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and the public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with management, staff, and the public.
