Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist/Histotechnician to join our team at Jefferson Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing laboratory tissue testing, receiving, processing, and preparing tissue samples for diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform histological procedures, including embedding, cutting, and staining surgical, biopsy, and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
  • Recognize deviations from expected results and analyze and correct problems within established periods to expedite diagnosis.
  • Maintain reagents and equipment in proper quantities and condition, and record instrument maintenance and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Use computer equipment to receive and validate laboratory orders, record and transmit test data efficiently.
  • Analyze and record QC data, and implement corrective action after consultation with supervisory personnel to verify accuracy and precision of instruments and staining quality.
  • Communicate with clinical staff about specimen submission requirements, answer inquiries about test results and methodology, and keep medical staff knowledgeable of laboratory functions.
  • Participate in orientation and training of new employees and students, hospital and laboratory in-service and continuing education programs, and mandated annual proficiency testing to ensure currency of job knowledge and technical competency.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a related life science or applied science field, or HEW/HHS or HT(ASCP) certification with laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 1-2 years' previous experience preferred; student training accepted.
  • HT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
