**Job Summary**

Columbia University is seeking an Electronics Technician to support our scientific staff of physicists and engineers developing electronics instrumentation for high-energy physics experiments.

The successful candidate will assemble, repair, and modify electronic equipment parts, components, and systems.

Located at Nevis Laboratories, the Electronics Technician will work closely with the Principal Investigator and engineering staff to design, construct, and test high-energy particle and nuclear experiments and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, modify, and repair Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) using advanced soldering skills.
  • Perform detailed soldering work, including reflow soldering and using related equipment.
  • Inspect solder joints and connections to ensure strong electrical conductivity and mechanical integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and repair soldering issues to maintain optimal board functionality.
  • Assist in the procurement of parts and inventory maintenance.

Requirements:

  • A combination of education and two years of minimum trade experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent soldering and technical skills.
  • Understanding of electronics shop requirements.
  • Mechanical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or trade degree.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality and professionalism with a client focus.
  • Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and organization skills.
