Situated on a sprawling 174-acre campus in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta is equipped with 300 licensed and accredited inpatient beds across three primary program areas: Adult Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. Additionally, GRH/Atlanta provides both inpatient and outpatient Dental Services.
Position Overview
Job Title: Physician - Board Eligible – Admissions - Hourly - GRHA
Pay Grade: MBE
Role Summary:
Under general oversight, the physician delivers comprehensive medical services by assessing patients, diagnosing health conditions, and implementing treatment plans. This role includes directing nurses, aides, and other staff in patient care and treatment.
- May oversee medical staff
- Refers patients to specialists as required
- Provides health care guidance, including health promotion and disease prevention
- Collaborates with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals
- Directs and coordinates the activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical personnel
- Conducts patient examinations, gathers medical histories, orders lab tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures, and consults with other medical professionals to assess patients' physical and mental health
- Prescribes or administers treatments, therapies, medications, vaccinations, and other specialized medical care to manage or prevent illnesses, diseases, or injuries
- Provides emergency medical assistance when necessary
Qualifications:
- Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) AND licensure or eligibility to practice medicine at a state institution or within the state of Georgia as mandated by state law. Physician must be Board Eligible.
- A national and state background check is required as a condition of employment for this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
- Experience in managing patients with serious and persistent medical conditions, and in leading and collaborating within an interdisciplinary treatment team
- Experience working with adults in mental health, substance use disorders, and forensic psychiatry
