Key Responsibilities- Prepare patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and gathering pertinent health information.
- Perform laboratory procedures, such as strep tests and wound cultures, using aseptic technique and standard precautions.
- Assist physicians with procedures and surgeries, including pelvic exams and allergy scratch testing.
- Administer routine medications under physician orders.
- Provide basic patient instructions on routine tasks and skills.
- Follow through with procedure requests, pre-approved care algorithms, and referrals to other facilities or services.
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure smooth clinic flow.
- Document patient information accurately and efficiently using electronic medical records.
- Prepare and assemble medical record documentation for physicians prior to patient visits.
- Anticipate physician needs by obtaining internal and external previous medical records and test results.
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant.
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in medical assisting, medical transcription, emergency medical services, patient service, or as a healthcare professional.
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity and confidentiality for patients while assisting physicians.
This position requires travel and may be exposed to severe weather or road conditions. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids hazards on a frequent basis and will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
