Job Overview

This is a senior-level project management role focused on the installation of vehicle assembly tooling and automation systems at General Motors facilities.


About the Job
  • We are seeking an experienced project engineer or project manager to lead the development and installation of vehicle assembly tooling, conveyance, and automation systems.
  • The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge and experience in developing and installing these systems, as well as managing teams and vendors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise to engineering teams and vendors on equipment/tooling build process review, including zone layouts and process flow.
  • Support and counsel suppliers/vendors on equipment fabrication, construction, integration, and start-up at their facilities.
  • Manage plant installation and successful launch of all assembly equipment, including tooling, conveyance, automation, and robotics.
  • Work closely with engineering resources, clients, fabricators, vendors, and plant personnel to provide technical expertise and knowledge of General Motors' engineering/equipment standards and practices.
  • Attend remote, video conference, and in-person meetings to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Conduct tooling systems design reviews and evaluations, review CAD drawing and specification documents, and assist with schedules and timelines.
  • Travel to build shops and client manufacturing facilities as required, providing field support during weekends, shutdowns, and holidays if necessary.

Requirements
  • Minimum 10+ years of vehicle assembly manufacturing and tooling experience involved in General Motors assembly manufacturing equipment projects.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience leading or managing General Motors assembly equipment installation projects, providing technical direction and leadership.
  • BS in engineering highly desired or equivalent training/experience.
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel) and knowledge of CAD systems and MS Project.
  • Ability to work from client locations in Metro Detroit, other states, and possibly from the home office, with up to 50% travel required.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year.
