Job Summary:

Sumter School District is seeking a skilled Physical Therapist Assistant to provide essential support to individual education programs for special education students. The ideal candidate will have experience working with pediatric or school-based populations and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the IEP team to develop individual goals and objectives for students.
Implement selected components of interventions/treatment under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
Obtain data related to the interventions provided and make modifications as necessary.
Conduct individual and group physical therapy treatments as assigned by the physical therapist.
Monitor student response to intervention and consult with the physical therapist as needed.
Assist in the selection of physical therapy techniques/media and adapt techniques/media as indicated by student performance.
Record billable treatment times and provide documentation for students receiving MEDICAID according to school system guidelines.

Requirements:

Associate's degree from an accredited physical therapy assistant program at a technical or community college, college, or university required.
Pediatric or school-based experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

The Physical Therapist Assistant will work in a school-based setting and be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch regularly. The employee must have visual and hearing acuity sufficient enough to assess patient safety and ability. Capable of exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-20 pounds of force frequently to move objects, equipment, and/or perform medium to maximum transfer assists with students.
