Job Summary

The Host/Hostess is a key position in the front door staff, responsible for driving business into our esteemed establishment. This role requires a high level of hospitality and communication skills, with a focus on coordinating and managing all reservations, dining room and banquet seating, guest assistance, and the flow of guests in and out of the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guest Experience: Organize greeting, seating, and exiting of all guests using a professional demeanor.
  • Reservation Management: Organize all reservations, banquets, and guests using the most effective guest and restaurant-conscious procedures.
  • Communication: Professionally and effectively communicate with guests to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Special Requests: Organize special requests, such as birthdays, specialty cakes, large parties, third-party pay forms, repeat guests, celebrity guests, and banquets.
  • Guest Relationships: Maintain guest relationships to promote repeat business.
  • Decision Making: Implement quick and efficient decisions based on guest and/or restaurant needs.
  • Seating and Revenue: Use business-savvy skills to maximize seating space and increase revenue based on seating all guests, walk-ins, and large parties.
  • Team Communication: Communicate with bar, service, kitchen, and management staff.
  • Service Quality: Provide the highest quality service to guests at all times.
  • Staff Motivation: Motivate and encourage communication with staff.
  • Awareness: Be aware of all guests' needs, reservation needs, and restaurant needs at all times.
  • Seating Configurations: Understand all of the restaurant's main dining room and banquet seating configurations.
  • Database Management: Create and maintain a database with local concierges.
  • Technology: Utilize OPEN TABLE to the best of its capacities.
  • Integrity: Maintain integrity of service.
  • Feedback: Speak with guests to encourage feedback.
  • Respect and Dignity: Treat every guest, employee, and vendor with respect and dignity.
  • Attendance and Uniform: Report to work on time and in proper uniform, always punching in and out as required of all hourly employees.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with the team before, during, and after shift.
  • Service Standards: Understand existing Jean-Georges' steps of service.
  • Menu Knowledge: Knowledge of all food and beverage menus.
  • Meetings: Attend and participate in weekly restaurant manager meeting.
  • Values and Mission: Uphold the Restaurant Values and Mission Statement while performing positional responsibilities and adhering to Restaurant company policies and procedures, as stated in The Legends Handbook.
Position Characteristics

The ideal candidate will display a pleasant and cheerful disposition, be able to communicate professionally and effectively with both guests and staff, maintain a high level of integrity, show an eagerness and capacity to learn, and be able to be relied upon to complete tasks.

Qualifications
  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers to assure compliance with company service standards.
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write English Language in order to communicate with guests.
  • Ability to lift and transport items weighing 10-30 pounds, occasionally 40 pounds.
