Position Title: Assistant Scientist
Grade: T24

Role Overview: The Assistant Scientist in Dr. Gareth Thomas' laboratory is responsible for providing technical assistance by conducting scientific experiments within a research environment. This role involves independently managing experiments or small-scale research projects that require specialized knowledge and expertise in a particular scientific field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a colony of laboratory mice, ensuring accurate record-keeping and effective communication with team members regarding the colony's status.
- Perform mammalian tissue culture and standard molecular biology techniques, including restriction enzyme digests, ligations, and plasmid DNA purification.
- Assist in inventory management and maintenance of essential laboratory supplies, verify order receipts, and uphold a clean and organized workspace.
- Engage in additional related tasks as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of laboratory research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Prior experience with rodent handling, particularly with genetically modified mice.
- Proficiency in tissue culture and/or molecular biology techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant computer software and professional principles.
