Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Quality Inspector to join our team at Precision Castparts Corp. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating CMMs to inspect aerospace alloys for the gas turbine engine industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled setup and operation of CMMs, including changeover of fixtures, touch probes, and scanning probes.
  • Understand and interpret standard drawing tolerances and GD&T.
  • Perform inspections from drawings and written work instructions.
  • Utilize basic mathematical skills to measure and record dimensional items with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Responsible for part quality and utilizes standard and custom measuring equipment to perform dimensional checks.
  • Perform visual inspections of machined parts.
  • Maintain machines in operational condition by performing daily preventive maintenance checks on the fixture, probe racks, and cleaning of the CMMs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts through verbal or documented communication for required actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Working Conditions

Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment.

Constant exposure to moderate noise.

Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours, and wet or uneven surfaces.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, and work at heights on an intermittent basis for eight to twelve hours a day.
  • Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials and fine manipulation.
  • Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level is frequently performed on a continuous basis.
  • Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
Requirements
  • Requires the use of judgment and ability to plan and make decisions concerning setup, operations, and processing of cutting requirements on more than one piece of equipment simultaneously.
  • Prior CMM experience is preferred.
Skills
  • Previous intermediate knowledge of hand layout checks and the ability to demonstrate reading a print and performing a layout.
  • Previous visual inspection experience, detailed defect identification.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the CMM process and inspection setup and operation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot inspection processes and determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • In-depth knowledge of how to use various measuring tools to ensure parts meet customer needs.
  • Knowledge and operation of inspection equipment such as CMM, optical comparator, wax-and-trace machine.
  • Skill in following directions both verbal and written and in transferring instructions into action.
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision.
