Position Summary:
The American Association of Motor Vehicles is seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Cloud Security Engineer. This role involves the critical responsibility of enhancing security measures within the Microsoft Azure cloud environment through automation and coding practices. The selected candidate will collaborate with a team of experienced engineers, playing a vital role in the Security DevOps initiative. A strong foundation in scripting and a comprehensive understanding of cloud technologies, particularly containerization, are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain security operations for production workloads in Microsoft Azure utilizing automation and coding techniques.
- Act as a significant contributor to the Security DevOps initiative.
- Perform security assessments, troubleshooting, and threat detection as necessary.
- Engage in security reviews and audits.
- Conduct ongoing security monitoring and internal compliance evaluations.
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of security standards, procedures, and knowledge documentation.
- Participate in an on-call rotation as required.
- Propose and implement innovative security solutions to address future challenges, including conducting proof of concept evaluations.
- Develop technical solutions and new security tools aimed at mitigating vulnerabilities and automating repetitive tasks.
Qualifications:
Formal Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Possession of general security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or equivalent, with the ability to obtain certification within three months of employment.
- Technical certifications: AZ-500 Microsoft Azure Security Technologies or equivalent, with the ability to obtain certification within three months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Six to eight years of experience in a Systems Engineer or Security Engineer role within a Windows environment.
- Extensive technical knowledge and hands-on experience in securing Windows environments.
- Solid understanding of various security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, PKI, SIEM, and DLP.
- Proficient in scripting languages, particularly PowerShell and JSON.
- Strong grasp of network concepts and familiarity with network monitoring tools such as Wireshark.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of personnel.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to perform under pressure.
- Experience in developing and presenting technical documentation, including architecture diagrams.
- Experience in highly regulated environments (NIST SP 800-53, ISO is advantageous).
- Familiarity with AKS, Azure security constructs, and DevOps toolsets is a plus.
- Experience with Linux and Linux security is beneficial.
- Working knowledge of FISMA and/or NIST publications is a plus.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and evolving business needs.
- Flexible work schedule to accommodate tasks outside of standard business hours when necessary.
- United States citizenship is required.
