Job Summary

This is a skilled, full-time non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Sewer Collection Superintendent. The successful candidate will be responsible for the location, installation, maintenance, calibration, collection, and interpretation of data from sanitary sewer flow monitors, rain gauges, pressure recorders, and other related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor the City's sanitary sewer flows to reduce the amount of wastewater to be treated.
  • Determine data collection needs and location of flow monitoring equipment and rain gauges.
  • Coordinate with property owners for placement of rain gauges.
  • Collect, interpret, and maintain recorded data from flow monitors, rain gauges, and pressure recorders.
  • Repair, calibrate, and maintain electronic flow monitors and related equipment.
  • Assemble flow charts and graphs for presentation of I & I abatement and sanitary sewer system improvement needs.
  • Accompany and assist contractors, consultants, and field crews in the study of the City's sewer infrastructure.
  • Inspect aerial sanitary sewer crossings on a regular basis and within appropriate time after a rain.
  • Inspect work of contractors and consultants in relation to inflow and infiltration studies.
  • Respond to questions from the public and City staff.
  • Attend various meetings, workshops, and training sessions as required.
  • Perform dye tests and work with property owners to correct illegal connections to the City's sanitary sewer system.
  • Coordinate with field crews in the corrective actions necessary to maintain a tight sanitary sewer system.
  • Supervise and direct a crew in tasks associated with inflow and infiltration.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • TNDL required.
  • 2 or more years of supervisor experience required.
  • Sewer Collection licensure required.
Working Conditions

The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in order to conduct inspections. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment. Employees work in both the office and in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, road hazards, mechanical electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
