Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps in Falls Church, VA. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, which are essential for patient care and diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting, including maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, and conducting quality control procedures.
  • Conduct quality control reviews on work performed, equipment, reagents, procedures, and manuals within the assigned section of the laboratory.
  • Establish and implement local standards for specimen collection and preparation procedures, and advise medical staff on the appropriateness of each specimen and time and manner in which it is collected.
  • Collect appropriate specimens, select, perform, evaluate, and monitor the performance of routine, non-routine, and specialized test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques.
  • Report test results with consideration for their significance and urgency, and consult with physicians on additional tests that may be useful or necessary to clarify problems.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience in a clinical laboratory setting, or one full year of graduate-level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT), or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
