Position Overview

As a key member of the JBS USA team, the Livestock Handling QA Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the humane treatment of animals throughout our operations.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all humane handling Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including scheduling, unloading, and training.
  • Assist with the handling of non-ambulatory animals, ensuring proper driving and stunning techniques are employed.
  • Conduct sensibility checks at the bleed rail and monitor slow hog movement to ensure adherence to SOPs.
  • Perform audits and document activities, including remote video monitoring.
  • Verify that livestock truck drivers are certified in Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA) training and provide necessary training.
  • Support training initiatives, including humane handling, captive bolt training, and electrical prod usage.
  • Maintain effective communication with USDA/FSIS regarding humane handling practices.
  • Monitor the transportation of animals, ensuring equipment is functioning correctly and seasonal preparations are in place.
  • Identify visible defects in animals that may affect yield or quality, providing feedback to Procurement.
  • Assist in emergency response situations as needed.
  • Implement the four elements of the Systematic Approach during each shift.
  • Participate in the facility's Animal Welfare Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Humane Handling Manager.
  • Attend meetings and document notes clearly.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the livestock industry is advantageous.
  • Basic mathematical and analytical skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to handle live hogs in accordance with humane handling guidelines.
  • Capability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Team-oriented mindset.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, and pull heavy weights as necessary.
  • Flexibility to rotate shifts as required.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred but not mandatory.
