The Senior Medical Imaging Technologist, under the guidance of the Medical Director and/or Section Head, along with the manager and Radiologist, is responsible for executing technical procedures and aiding in the clinical assessment and care of patients.

This role involves utilizing specialized imaging modalities to generate diagnostic images while ensuring a safe and positive experience for patients.

In modalities that produce radiation, technologists are expected to implement and uphold radiation safety protocols in accordance with state health regulations.

Technologists are encouraged to engage in ongoing education and training as technology evolves, both for their own development and for the benefit of others.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain proficient imaging skills in designated modalities.
  • Assume lead technologist responsibilities when designated by the Manager or MIT V; may take on additional duties as assigned by the Department Manager and MIT V.
  • Mentor and train new Medical Imaging Technologists; if lacking experience in training, must complete a preceptor course.
  • Foster a culture of growth and development, contributing to a professional and progressive Imaging department with a supportive environment.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies, as well as state and accrediting agency standards.
  • Assist Physicians in all procedural aspects within the assigned area.
  • Ensure a safe and positive experience for patients.
  • Be available for on-call duties if required.
  • Act as a mentor and preceptor for new staff and students.
  • Support Albany Med and the imaging department in maintaining necessary accreditations.
  • Accurately enter patient data into computer systems.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on images and patient information for accuracy before submission to PACs.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the age and specific characteristics of the patient population.

Obtain peripheral IV access and administer contrast material as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
  • Vocational School Diploma from an accredited two-year AMA Radiologic Technology program - required
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience - required
  • NYS DOH Diagnostic license and/or eligibility upon hire - required
  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registered upon hire - required
  • ARRT Advanced Certification in modality upon hire - required
