Staff Geologist

HVJ Associates is seeking a highly skilled Staff Geologist to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of geotechnical projects, conducting site investigations and laboratory testing in various geological formations across Texas.

The Staff Geologist will be responsible for supporting project managers, staff engineers, and laboratory managers by performing field logging, training technicians, and analyzing geological formations. This role requires a strong background in geology, with a Bachelor's degree or at least 2 years of experience in bedrock characterization.

• Conduct field logging for geotechnical site investigations in various geologic bedrock formations across Texas.
• Train geotechnical field technicians on characterizing bedrock samples obtained in various geological formations.
• Analyze project site geological formations using geological maps prior to site investigations and advise the project team.
• Perform laboratory tests as required.
• Document the work performed as appropriate on media and forms provided.
• Provide support to Project Manager, Staff Engineers and/or Laboratory Manager as needed.

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in Geology or minimum of 2 years of experience in bedrock characterization in various geologic formations.
• Ability to lift concrete, soil, or asphalt samples as a routine part of the job.
• Ability to tolerate year-round outdoor work.
• Valid Texas Driver's License with no history of accidents or alcohol/drug-related traffic offenses.
• Willingness to travel and work out of town about 95 percent of the time in a month when needed, and ability to work over weekends if needed.
