POSITION SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering care to patients across various age groups, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults, who require acute medical attention in the Medical/Surgical unit. This position involves effective communication with patients and their families while adhering to professional nursing standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with patients and their families, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Collaborate effectively with all hospital personnel and external stakeholders.
- Exhibit professionalism and compassion in challenging situations, utilizing sound judgment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications relevant to patient care.
- Prioritize tasks effectively and respond to emergencies with confidence.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, interventions, and responses.
- Work closely with the supervising Registered Nurse (RN) to support patient assessments.
- Provide guidance and instruction to staff, patients, and families with tact and professionalism.
- Assist in the mobility and transfer of patients as needed.
- Apply analytical skills to address challenges in patient care settings.
- Ensure high accuracy in documentation and communication with patients and staff.
- Support healthcare providers during procedures, including but not limited to thoracentesis.
- Implement patient care plans effectively to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Foster positive relationships with patients and their families, enhancing customer service.
- Engage in Quality Improvement initiatives, promoting continuous enhancement within the department.
- Provide assistance to colleagues as required.
- Uphold the mission and values of the Medical Center in all interactions.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
- Current licensure to practice as an LPN in the state of Missouri or eligibility for practice as a graduate practical nurse in Missouri.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Understanding of growth and development principles and the ability to assess the physical and psychological needs of patients at various life stages.
- Self-motivated with the ability to adhere to established hospital policies and procedures.
