Job Summary

Cook County Health and Hospitals is seeking a skilled CAT Technologist to join our radiology team at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. As a CAT Technologist, you will be responsible for performing CAT scan examinations on in-patients and out-patients, processing and critiquing radiographic images, and monitoring the CAT scanner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and set up all equipment necessary for CAT scanning examinations.
  • Explain procedures to patients and ensure their safety and comfort throughout CAT scanning procedures.
  • Send images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and enter patients in the hospital's Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Set the appropriate scanning data on equipment, including milliamperage, exposing time, slice thickness, cradle increment, orientation, scan fields, target factors, and algorithm.
  • Obtain images of excellent diagnostic quality appropriate for the patient's medical problem.
  • Ensure that slices are of acceptable quality and assist with infusion if necessary.
  • Perform quality assurance tests daily and document time.
  • Order necessary supplies and maintain an adequate inventory.
  • Maintain daily log sheets with patient initials, nature of examination, area examined, and type of protective devices used.
  • Assist in teaching CAT scanning procedures to residents, technicians, and students.
  • May initiate IVs for administration of contrast media.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a two-year American Medical Association-approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Certification in CT through the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of full-time work experience in performing Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Basic knowledge of computer science and computer technology.
  • Basic knowledge of CAT scanning and PACS procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of Infection Control and Safety Guidelines.
Physical and Environmental Demands

This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department-specific safety requirements.
