To become a Lyft driver, you'll need to meet some basic requirements. You must be at least 25 years old, own an iPhone or Android smartphone, and have a clean driving record and auto insurance. You'll also need to have a 4-door car from 2008 or newer (car year may vary by region). If you rent a car through our Express Drive program, you won't be required to have a specific car year.

As a Lyft driver, you'll have the opportunity to earn extra money and supplement your part-time or full-time income. This can be especially beneficial during the summer months when teachers or others may be looking for seasonal work. You don't need experience in the public or private transportation industry, but if you do have experience as a delivery driver, professional driver, chauffeur, luxury driver, truck driver, school bus driver, taxi driver, or cab driver, it could be beneficial.

We estimate that you can earn approximately $15 per hour, although this may vary based on your location and the number of rides you give. To incentivize new drivers, we're offering a $400 bonus in Iowa City when you give 40 rides during your first 7 days. New drivers only; terms apply.
