Job Overview

Position Summary:

The role involves setting up and managing cluster mills and Stanat mills, both in cold and hot conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Choose appropriate shape rolls, tensions, and reductions for various alloys to fulfill final strip specifications regarding gauge tolerances and visual quality.
  • Process alloys to precise dimensions, achieving tolerances as tight as .0001.
  • Identify operational challenges and perform minor repairs and adjustments to the machinery.
  • Select suitable rolls and passes for each task.
  • Assemble and disassemble the metalworking components of the mills.
  • Utilize spot welders to connect strips to leader strips.
  • Handle loading, unloading, and degreasing of strips.
  • Calculate the length and weight of coils accurately.
  • Ensure proper identification of materials and maintain accurate work records.
  • Keep machinery clean and assist in machine repairs as needed.
  • Operate auxiliary equipment and provide support in other areas as required.
  • Adhere to all company policies and regulations.

Supervisor Responsibilities: None

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic arithmetic and algebra skills.
  • 6-12 months of relevant experience.
  • Strong focus and attention to detail when rolling materials to precise limits.
  • Manual dexterity for working with fine materials.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Adept at recognizing equipment issues and diagnosing potential problems.
  • Understanding of mechanical testing properties and values.
  • Strong judgment in operating machinery, troubleshooting rolling strip tolerances, and selecting reductions for various metals.
  • Ability to comprehend work-related documentation.
  • Effective communication skills.

Work Environment:

  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with some flexibility required.
  • Work is conducted in a production setting.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds independently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
