Patient Access Representative II Ophthalmology Main Campus: Key Administrator

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative II to join our team at University Hospitals. This role provides comprehensive administrative support to our healthcare team, serving as the first point of contact for patients and exemplifying personal warmth, patient engagement, and professionalism.
About the Role:
The Patient Access Representative II will be responsible for interviewing, registering, and instructing patients in a face-to-face setting or on the telephone. They will also enter and validate medical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business data in a timely and courteous manner to ensure master patient index integrity and creation of an accurate claim.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interview, register, and instruct patients in a face-to-face setting or on the telephone.
- Enter and validate medical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business data in a timely and courteous manner.
- Prepare standard patient materials, including forms, labels, brochures, surveys, etc.
- Maintain confidential health records, process physician orders, and schedule patients.
- Identify and communicate the need for interpreter services.
- Provide patient education regarding third-party coverage and liabilities.
- Communicate possible payment options and connect patients to a financial counselor if needed.
- Collect, post, and balance co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments.
- Perform various additional support and backup functions within the department and provide cross-coverage as needed.
- Help mentor new hires.
- Maintain expertise in PAS legal and compliance requirements and incorporate principles into workflows.
- Handle a wide variety of patient inquiries regarding services and logistics to ensure patients can access care with maximum throughput and minimal delay.
- Recruit and train patients to access My UH Care Personal Health Record.
- Exceed achievement of productivity and quality standards.
- Be subject matter expert in computer applications used by PAS, insurance/government regulations, and UH/PAS policies/procedures used within the department.
Requirements:
- High School Equivalent/GED (Required)
- Associate's Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred)
- Medical Terminology (Preferred)
- 2+ years experience in patient registration, scheduling, banking, office, or related medical field using computers (Required)
- Bachelor's degree accepted in lieu of 1 year of work experience
Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience.

Educational Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate's degree or progress towards a degree is preferred. Medical terminology knowledge is also preferred.
Work Experience:
Two or more years of experience in patient registration, scheduling, banking, office, or related medical field using computers is required. A bachelor's degree can be accepted in lieu of one year of work experience.

This role may require travel up to 10% of the time.
Estimated Salary Range: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience.
