The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is seeking a highly skilled Accountant to join our team. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for performing accounting and financial processes and transactions related to recording and reporting NGA's financial activity. You will implement and establish procedures that align with federal accounting standards and policies, review financial and accounting results to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with appropriate legal, regulatory, and procedural requirements, and prepare reports.
Key Responsibilities- Perform accounting and financial processes and transactions related to recording and reporting NGA's financial activity.
- Implement and establish procedures that align with federal accounting standards and policies.
- Review financial and accounting results to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with appropriate legal, regulatory, and procedural requirements.
- Prepare reports and may correct cost discrepancies, create and improve consistent accounting procedures, work directly with auditing teams to complete all auditing tasks as necessary, and may also perform budgeting tasks.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field that included, or was supplemented by, at least 24 semester hours of coursework in Accounting.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting accounting rules and regulations relating to Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) and issued Statement of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and/or in writing complex financial issues, such as asset valuation.
- Demonstrated experience in providing accounting recommendations for Property, Plant, and Equipment (PP&E) on financial statements.
- Demonstrated experience responding to financial statement audit inquiries.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing financial auditable documentation to support conclusions and journal entries.
- Demonstrated experience in application of accounting guidance with special emphasis on issues related to the capitalization of information systems, developed software, phases of software development, and related IT equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in internal or external audit concepts and procedures sufficient to define and evaluate internal controls over financial reporting, test for improper payments, and support auditor requests.
- Demonstrated experience in applying critical thinking to analyze and resolve complex financial accounting and reporting issues and identify business process improvements.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting DoD Financial Management Regulations relating to Audit or Property Accountability.
You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information.
