We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Virginia Cancer Specialists. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
Key Responsibilities- Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens from patients as ordered.
- Assist with special procedures as needed, such as bone marrow collections.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, and testing.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance.
- Adhere to quality control policies and document all QC activities.
- Participate in proficiency testing and prepare peripheral blood smears.
- Process specimens for send-out testing and follow laboratory policies for test systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including accessioning logs, test report logs, and quality control logs.
- Associates degree in medical technology or laboratory science.
- Current state license if required.
- AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification preferred.
- 0-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Phlebotomy experience required.
The physical demands of this job require full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination in operation and manipulation of complex laboratory equipment.
Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time, with the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, and arms to reach or carry.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is an office setting with significant interaction with management, staff, and external auditors and clients.
Work will require frequent travel by air or automobile, approximately 70% of the workweek, on average.
