Job Title: Senior Cloud Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to join our team at Pearson. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based systems and infrastructure to support our applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement cloud-based database solutions using AWS and Azure platforms.
  • Work with engineering teams to identify and implement optimal cloud-based database solutions.
  • Solve complex problems and optimize performance, scale-out, and build resiliency in the platform.
  • Troubleshoot priority incidents, facilitate post-mortems, and ensure permanent closure of incidents.
  • Develop best practices for database standards, documentation, and procedures.
  • Run, operate, and upkeep Pearson Cloud systems.
  • Administration of Databases, Cloud services, monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Support automation services and scripting for cloud deployment and migrations.
  • Reduce and remove toil through automation.
  • Support cross-cloud applications (AWS and Azure).
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms with a database focus.
  • Experience with Enterprise scaled deployments of Microsoft SQL Server or Postgres.
  • Advanced understanding of the following AWS Services; RDS, EC2, Cloudwatch, Lambda, FSx, S3.
  • Understanding of database performance optimization, backups, and disaster recovery methods.
  • Infrastructure as Code - CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Experience automating database administration tasks and services with T-SQL, PowerShell, Python, and/or similar programming languages.
  • Experience with the Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Strong understanding and experience with the five pillars of well-architected frameworks.
  • Experience in monitoring cloud-based systems using tools like NewRelic, CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.
  • Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
  • Familiarity with agile software development lifecycle. - Jira.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools like Git.
  • Experience in designing, analyzing, and solving large-scale distributed database systems.
  • Strong Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in a cloud environment.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines - w/ Azure Devops and GitHub.
Preferred Skills:
  • AWS Solution Architect Associate certification is desirable.
  • Database Administration Certificates such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)
