Job Purpose and Overview

As a Quality Assurance Technician I, you'll be responsible for performing daily quality activities in the plant. This includes process audits, GMP audits, and in-process or laboratory testing to ensure every ingredient and finished good meets product specifications. You'll identify quality issues, report them to the appropriate person, and initiate corrective action.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and inspect products in process or in the lab to ensure they meet all specifications.
  • Record all information and report any discrepancies.
  • Monitor and check the calibration of measuring equipment and the operation of metal detectors to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform formula audits and process audits, documenting audit results.
  • Monitor adherence to all food safety and quality programs, including Good Manufacturing Practices and the Food Safety Plan.
  • Report any problems to the appropriate Lead/Supervisor.
  • Promote and facilitate safe work practices at all times.
  • Perform environmental swabbing as per the schedule.
  • Assist in the investigation of out-of-compliance products.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • 1 year of experience and/or equivalent education in supporting plants and assessing the effectiveness of plant quality and food safety programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to problem-solve in variable situations.
  • Must be able to work well with others and independently.
  • Knowledge of basic lab equipment such as water activity, viscometers, etc.
  • Basic math, record-keeping, and computer skills.

The employee is occasionally required to use sensory perception for quality measurement of products. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, wheat, and soy.
