Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team at St. Luke's University Health Network. As a Radiation Therapist, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring the safe and effective administration of radiation therapy treatments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and deliver planned courses of radiation therapy treatment, adhering to prescriptions from radiation oncologists.
  • Administer radiation therapy treatments accurately and safely to patients, monitoring and reporting effects, reactions, and therapeutic responses.
  • Accurately document treatment procedures and maintain daily treatment records.
  • Exercise judgment in withholding treatment when conditions warrant, consulting with radiation oncologists before proceeding.
  • Assess patients' knowledge base and provide education regarding radiation therapy procedures.
  • Simulate and plan treatment courses by defining and identifying tumors, targets, and target volumes, as directed and prescribed by radiation oncologists.
  • Perform treatment planning procedures, dose calculations, block and immobilization fabrication, and portal verification when appropriate.
  • Evaluate and assess daily the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of each patient to treatment delivery, providing support and directing patients and family members to appropriate personnel and agencies for additional support.
  • Maintain radiation safety through daily and periodic quality assurance procedures and related tasks as appropriate, adhering to guidelines of radiation protection and infection control.
  • Detect equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.
  • Prepare and/or assist in preparation and use of brachytherapy sources.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned areas, ensuring all equipment and supplies necessary for that area are readily available for use.
  • Assist in gathering, recording data, and serving as committee members for Radiation Oncology Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement programs.
  • Demonstrate the hospital's core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Understand the function of equipment, accessories, treatment methods, and protocols, applying such knowledge appropriately.
  • Demonstrate competency in assessment, treatment, and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • Teach, train, and provide education resources for students, assisting in the evaluation process of students.
  • Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient, and environmental safety, following appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrate Performance Improvement in the following areas: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
  • Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity, as well as the proper release of information.
Requirements
  • ARRT registered certification or eligibility (must pass registry within 1 year from date of hire)
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Computer skills required
  • On-going training in department procedures provided
Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, day shift, and other hours as needed. Hours dependent upon department schedule. May be required to assist Radiation Oncologist with emergency treatment on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
