Senior Atmospheric Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Atmospheric Scientist to join our team at the Argonne National Laboratory. As a postdoctoral appointee, you will play a key role in conducting model simulations with high-resolution global and regional climate models.
Job ResponsibilitiesYour primary focus will be on analyzing convective systems and weather extremes to understand their predictability and how they are influenced by environmental factors such as urbanization, aerosols, and climate change. You will lead model simulations of convective systems with high-resolution regional and global models, evaluate these simulations, and investigate the impact of environmental factors on convective systems and precipitation.
Key Skills and Qualifications- Completed PhD (typically completed within the last 0-5 years) in Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, or other climate-related science
- Expertise in any of the following: cloud and convection, severe weather, land-atmosphere interactions, impacts of urbanization on precipitation, and aerosol-cloud interactions
- Strong modeling skills and high-performance computing experience
- Experience with model code development, and strong programming skills (e.g., Fortran and Python)
- Knowledge of data analytics and statistical methods
- Demonstrated strong scientific writing skills and oral communication
The successful candidate will receive an estimated salary of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
