Key Responsibilities of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP):

  • Perform thorough assessments of patients' speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing capabilities.
  • Utilize standardized assessments, observations, and interviews with patients and families to identify communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Create personalized treatment plans tailored to assessment findings, patient objectives, and clinical insights.
  • Establish realistic and measurable short-term and long-term goals for each patient.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapy for speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing challenges.
  • Apply therapeutic techniques and strategies customized to meet each patient's unique requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports to healthcare providers, insurance entities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and dietitians.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and caregivers to provide education, support, and strategies for skill application outside of therapy sessions.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes.
  • Stay informed about the latest research, trends, and best practices in speech-language pathology through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Adhere to all professional, ethical, and regulatory standards, including those established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and state licensing boards.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and training sessions.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications for the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP):

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the practicing state.
  • Certification of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or in the process of completing the ASHA Clinical Fellowship Year requirements.
