Job Summary

Columbia Gorge Community College is seeking a highly qualified Clinical Nursing Instructor to join our team. As a Clinical Nursing Instructor, you will be responsible for organizing and carrying out structured clinical and skills lab learning processes for students in the Nursing Program. You will work collaboratively with nurse educators and under their direction to ensure the success of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet all scheduled clinical laboratories as assigned in skills lab and simulation lab settings.
  • Supervise and evaluate student performance in the clinical setting.
  • Promote student success among all students.
  • Evaluate students' progress and report individual academic marks or ratings in collaboration with other faculty.
  • Plan and teach nursing classes as assigned under the direction of an identified nurse educator, including lecture, skills labs, and clinical instruction.
  • Maintain and emphasize safety in working conditions and practices, acting as a role model for students.
  • Provide the staff of the clinical facilities with copies of program goals, student learning objectives, and clinical schedules.
  • Provide a positive role model for students and provide positive feedback to students.
  • Facilitate students' adjustment to clinical facility.
  • Provide professional clinical support through pre-and post-conferences.
  • Act as liaison between clinical facility staff and students.
  • Participate in nursing department faculty meetings as assigned; promote teamwork within the instructional team; participate in shared governance within the Nursing Program.
  • Function as a life-long learner.
  • Provide for student evaluation of teaching effectiveness on a scheduled basis.
  • Participate in peer evaluation within the framework of the College.
  • Participate in appropriate campus and faculty activities of the College.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field with a post-master's certificate in nursing from a program that is at least two semesters or three quarters in length.
  • At least three years of nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current unencumbered Oregon R.N. License.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to complete a criminal history and sex offender check.
  • Ability to pass a 10-panel drug screen.
  • Ability to be deemed fit to practice in long term care facilities per OAR Chapter 411. Division 009.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Teaching experience in a nursing education program within the last five years.
  • Medical-surgical nursing practice in acute care settings within the last three years.
  • Prior experience in clinical supervision of students.
  • Experience teaching in an Associate Degree Nursing Program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of the curriculum in assigned instructional areas.
  • Knowledge of instructional delivery, the elements of effective teaching and learning, and the principles of adult education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • Current clinical nursing knowledge and maintenance of clinical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with clinical site staff.
  • Strong commitment to student success.
  • Strong commitment to innovation, collaboration, and quality.
  • Knowledge of the scopes of practice for PNs and RNs within the Oregon Nurse Practice Act through the State Board of Nursing.
  • Willingness to work and/or travel on a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to stay current in the field through professional development and self-study.
  • Ability to use computer technology for communication and instructional purposes.
