Job Title: Veterinarian

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinarian to join our team at the Oregon Zoo. As a Veterinarian, you will play a critical role in the care and well-being of our animals, ensuring their health and safety, and contributing to the advancement of animal welfare and conservation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality veterinary care to a diverse range of animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
  • Develop and implement preventative health programs, including vaccinations, parasite control, and nutritional management.
  • Diagnose and treat medical conditions, including surgical procedures and anesthesia.
  • Collaborate with other animal health professionals, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and animal care staff, to ensure comprehensive animal care.
  • Participate in conservation and research programs, including animal behavior studies, habitat enrichment, and species conservation.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive animal health records, including medical histories, vaccination records, and treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards, including the Animal Welfare Act and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) standards.
Requirements:
  • Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
  • Completion of an ACZM-approved post-graduate zoo medicine residency program or equivalent experience.
  • Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Oregon.
  • Ability to acquire Drug Enforcement Agency registration to prescribe and purchase controlled substances.
  • Ability to become federally accredited to write valid interstate and international health certificates.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Board certification or eligibility to be certified in zoological medicine by the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM).
  • Completion of an internship at an accredited institution or zoo.
