Job Title: Maintenance Laborer at Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago

Under direct supervision, engages in a range of routine manual labor activities that do not necessitate specialized training or expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with fellow staff, occasionally using specialized tools and equipment to carry out landscaping upkeep, pavement cleaning, floor maintenance, window cleaning, snow and ice management, waste collection, and other custodial tasks.
  • Examines assigned tools and machinery, conducts routine minor repairs, and operates power tools, electrical devices, and cleaning apparatus.
  • Maintains regular communication with supervisors and coworkers to effectively execute assignments.
  • Adheres to work and safety protocols, especially concerning protective gear and the use of cleaning substances.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations with appropriate corrective measures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Fetches equipment, tools, materials, and supplies from storage as instructed.
  • Coordinates tasks with other teams and office staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Typical duties may involve exposure to industrial equipment or operations, high noise levels, construction activities, varying weather conditions, confined spaces, heights, hazardous materials, and unpleasant odors. Some roles may require operating a District vehicle.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with materials, techniques, and equipment used in building maintenance and landscaping.
  • Understanding of basic hand tools and the ability to perform simple repairs.
  • Capability to comprehend and follow instructions, make basic safety judgments, and carry out physical tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand basic instructions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
