Chief Medical Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Physician and Surgeon to join our team at the Department of State Hospitals. As a key member of our medical leadership, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care and treatment to our patients, as well as overseeing the medical staff and ensuring the quality and appropriateness of medical services.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the supervision of medical staff to maintain high standards of general medical care and treatment.
- Monitor and evaluate specialty referrals and clinical procedures to ensure quality and appropriateness.
- Supervise the work of medical staff and assist in the coordination of their activities with other departments.
- Manage and supervise physician and surgeon staff, including assigning patients and/or units, creating work schedules, and providing consultation on difficult cases.
- Advise staff individually or preside at ward conferences and attend diagnostic and clinical conferences on appropriate treatment techniques.
- Organize ongoing educational programs for primary care providers and trainees through lectures and clinical workshops.
- Review clinical records of patients to ensure adequacy and proper compliance with standards of care.
- Make regular ward rounds, special teaching rounds, and inspection tours to observe professional services given and enforce hospital regulations.
- Inform the Chief of Primary Care Services on trends in the incidence of disease and needs for new or improved medical service.
- Knowledge of principles and methods of general medicine and surgery, as well as skills in their application.
- Knowledge of principles of psychiatry and neurology, as well as principles and applications of psychiatric social work, clinical psychology, physical therapy, and other ancillary medical services.
- Ability to direct and coordinate complex and varied activities in the field of general medicine and surgery, and analyze situations accurately and take effective actions.
- Willingness to work in a state hospital, sympathetic and objective understanding of the problems of the mentally disabled and developmentally disabled, tact, patience, emotional stability, and demonstrated leadership ability.
Face coverings are required while working on-site, and employees must follow current face covering guidance as issued by CDPH.
Special Requirements- The position requires a Drug Screening to be passed prior to being hired.
- The position requires a Background Investigation to be cleared prior to being hired.
- The position requires Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
- The position requires a CA Medical License, and a copy of the license must be provided prior to being hired.
