POSITION SUMMARY
The Healthcare Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering patient care and support within a clinical environment.
This position involves conducting patient interviews, gathering necessary specimens, assisting physicians during examinations, managing departmental supplies, providing patient education, and ensuring high-quality direct patient care and ancillary services as directed by the physician.
Responsibilities also include:performing phlebotomy for diagnostic purposes, conducting CLIA waived tests, and potentially completing EKGs and drug and alcohol screenings.
This role contributes to organizational objectives by delivering exceptional customer service, engaging in performance enhancement initiatives, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is mandatory.
LICENSE/
CERTIFICATION:
Preferred certification in Phlebotomy. BLSHCP certification must be obtained within six months of employment or transfer.
Graduates must have completed a post-secondary Medical Assistant program accredited by a recognized agency, with at least 330 hours of instruction, including specialized training in medication administration as per the NJ Board of Medical Examiners.
All Certified Medical Assistants are required to maintain active National Certification from an approved certifying agency in NJ (such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT), National Health Career Association (NHA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT), Board of Medical Examiners (BME)).
EXPERIENCE:
1-3 years of experience in an Ambulatory care setting is preferred. Ability to manage a high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions is essential.
Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred at the time of hire; training will be provided, and proficiency will be expected within 30-60 days of employment.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSDemonstrates competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this role. WORK ENVIRONMENT
There is potential exposure to hazards associated with the medical office environment, including bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and risk of injury.
This role requires significant physical activity, including reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, and walking. Long periods of telephone work are also required. This position frequently involves lifting weights of 25-50 lbs and occasionally heavier loads. Essential functions for this role are detailed in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPThis position reports to designated department leadership.
