Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, you will be responsible for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily inspection and operation of the MRI scanner under the direction of the Lead MRI Technologist or Chief Technologist/Imaging Program Administrator of Radiology.
  • Work independently to perform Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures, including diagnostic exams and MR guided procedures.
  • Establish IV access and administer IV contrast as needed.
  • Observe patients for signs and symptoms of adverse contrast reaction and initiate the appropriate response.
  • Discuss any exam that deviates from normal protocol set by the radiologist.
  • Assure optimum patient care, quality control, and comply with departmental SOPs.
  • Work with the Lead MRI technologist to ensure effective screening, quality control, and MR safe practices.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
  • Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
Working Conditions

This position requires heavy lifting, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 6 hours, standing 8 hours, specific visual requirement: ability to read typewritten characters with or without glasses, specific hearing requirements: ability to hear conversational voice with or without hearing aid, emotional and mental stability.

This is a full-time position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm or compressed schedule if needed with rotating Saturday. Telework is not available for this position. Virtual work is not available for this position.

This position is subject to background/security investigation. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
