Overview
As a Shipping Operations Supervisor at Duluth Trading Company's Distribution Center, you will play a crucial role in maintaining service levels as outlined in the strategic plans for the shipping, receiving, and replenishing departments. This position supports daily operations, process enhancements, and staff development on Duluth's 3-day Weekend Shift, allowing for a work-life balance with four days off each week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and prioritize daily work assignments for department personnel.
- Develop and manage weekly employee schedules.
- Monitor daily hours to ensure accurate departmental cost tracking.
- Document and communicate staff absences and tardiness within the Shipping Department.
- Maintain an updated schedule daily for precise tracking of personnel and outbound capacities.
- Foster proactive communication with other departments to ensure adequate staffing to meet order demands.
- Spend significant time on the floor to assist with workflow, address inquiries, and promote high morale among team members.
- Complete special assignments as directed by the DC Supervisor, DC Manager, Director of Operations, or VP Group.
- Achieve quarterly performance goals established by the DC Manager.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Ensure all actions regarding direct reports comply with established company policies.
Qualifications:
This position requires a minimum of one year of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a mid-sized distribution center.
Desired Skills:
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- A strong sense of urgency in achieving objectives.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including effective coaching and mentoring skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing applications.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or walk for up to eight hours daily.
- Frequent lifting of up to thirty pounds, with occasional lifting of up to seventy pounds.
- Frequent reaching, twisting, and bending in various directions.
- Capability to work in tight spaces.
- Exposure to moderate warehouse noise levels.
- Ability to push or pull a picking cart or pallet weighing up to five hundred pounds.
- Continuous arm, hand, and wrist movement.
- Work in varying temperatures ranging from 50 to 95 degrees.
