We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Scholar to join our team at the University of California, San Diego. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Mayfield and Dr. Ryan Simkovsky to develop synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and high throughput screening tools to alter a novel strain of cyanobacteria for increased production of biomass and chemicals in alkaline salt media.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement synthetic biology approaches to enhance cyanobacterial productivity
- Develop and optimize high throughput screening methods for strain evaluation
- Collaborate with industry leaders and academic groups to integrate our research with existing projects
Requirements:
- PhD in Biology or related field with experience in synthetic biology, microbiology, or biochemistry
- Strong background in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cyanobacteria and metabolic engineering
- Postdoctoral or equivalent experience with a strong commitment to mentoring and research training
