Nuclear Medicine Specialist

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist plays a critical role in assisting physicians in the diagnosis of diseases and injuries by performing technical procedures to obtain nuclear imaging of various body parts. This position requires a strong understanding of radiographical techniques and the ability to work in a radiation exposure area.
Working Conditions and Physical EffortThis role involves working in a fast-paced environment with constant physical activity. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist must be able to move or position equipment and patients, and must be able to move 25 pounds independently. Exposure to infectious materials, cuts, and abrasions from equipment is also a potential hazard.
Minimum QualificationsTo be successful in this role, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist must have a graduate degree from an AMA-approved school of Nuclear Medicine. Additionally, they must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or certified by an acceptable Nuclear Medicine Certification body.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for operating radiation exposure equipment and computers, and must be able to use standard mathematical formulas to calculate percentages of an original dose of radioisotope present in a gland, organ, or sample of blood, urine, or feces. They must also be able to work independently and as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives.
