Optical Engineer Internship Opportunity

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly motivated and talented Optical Engineer Intern to join our team for a summer internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Manhattan Beach, CA.

About the Role:

The Optical Engineer Intern will become part of Northrop Grumman's Lasers & Sensors department, within the Electronics & Payloads group, which is a part of the Strategic Space Systems Division. This team provides Optical Engineering to address the generation, transmission and receipt of optical signals and energy for EO / IR sensors, optical communications terminals, laser & beam control systems, photonics and other optical mission solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of optical systems and components.
  • Contribute to the development of optical engineering solutions for various applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate optical systems into larger systems.
  • Participate in the development of technical documentation and reports.

Requirements:

  • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2025.
  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2025.
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher.
